Immunology

The immune system is one of the most important organ systems in the body, with a front-line role in defending us from external pathogens and toxins, and so helping prevent disease. At Danone Nutricia Research the focus of our Immunology team is the interplay between nutrition and the immune system, both directly and indirectly through modulation of the gut microbiota. The impact of nutrition on prevention and management of immune-related disorders, such as allergy, recurrent infections and auto-immune diseases are being investigated, as well as the opportunity of nutrition in early life to reduce the incidence of non-communicable disease in later years.

Immune Fitness: working towards a resilient immune system

The immune system is not fully developed at birth but gradually develops over time. New research suggests we can train the immune system during early life to be more resilient to external challenges.
